WSIC mourns the loss of our neighbor, Reverend Scott Jackson, who passed away Sunday at 98 and is now with the Lord in glory. Pastor Jackson was known locally for the major accomplishments the Lord brought his way, including his work with area children providing dialysis machines in their homes here on radio road. Reverend Jackson helped to build New Birth Worship Center in East Bend, where he was the Assistant Pastor. Reverend Jackson will be buried with full military honors at the church cemetery, beside his late wife, Lacier who passed on to the church Eternal in 2014. The WSIC family was Blessed often by the couple’s generosity. During the hurricane that took down the WSIC tower years ago, the couple fed the entire staff and families of then WFMX and WSIC, whose families were all staying sheltered at the radio station.
Pastor Jackson was born in Scarborough, GA., and after attending several schools and seminaries in New York entered the AME Zion Church in 1956 as a pastor. He studied for four years at Hood Theological Seminary Extension School. He also studied for a total of seven years at the following prestigious institutes, where he received his Bachelor of Religious Education and Bachelor of Theology; New York Bible Institute, Bethel Bible University, New York Theological Seminary and College of New Rochelle, and United Christian College.
Reverend Jackson once said “The ministry is not in the pastor’s study. The ministry of God is in the field, out among the people, helping the people who need help and giving faith to those who have little.”
Pastor Jackson had two daughters, Marlena and Katherine, who preceded him in death in September of 2017, as well as one son, Taylor and Five grandchildren.
