NASA says residents of multiple mid-Atlantic states could see a fiery streak in the night sky late Tuesday, January 4th, when a Black Brant IX sounding rocket is fired from southern Virginia. The launch window from Wallops Flight Facility runs from 10pm January 4th through 2am January 5th, according to a NASA news release. Officials say that weather permitting, the rocket’s trail may be visible from Wilmington area of North Carolina as far north as New York City and even southern Connecticut.
