The NCDOT is hosting a public meeting next week to discuss a proposed project at the intersection of N.C. 16 and Optimist Club Road in Lincoln County. A traffic light was added at the site in 2021 as an interim measure to reduce delays caused by U-turn movements along the NC 16 Bypass. Engineers are now proposing to upgrade the intersection to an interchange to improve traffic flow. Proposed improvements include converting the existing intersection to a partial cloverleaf design, realigning Optimist Club Road over N.C. 16, and installing a multi-use path on both sides of Optimist Club Road just east of Forney Creek Parkway.
