Department of Transportation officials have scheduled nightly lane closures starting Sunday for a maintenance project at the Interstate 40/U.S. 321 interchange in Catawba County.
Beginning Sunday, the collector bridge for I-40 West and U.S. 321 South will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. The closure is needed to allow crews to safely replace bridge joints. Work is expected to be complete by May 26.
A signed detour will be in place for traffic on I-40 West to access U.S. 321 South using U.S. 321 North and U.S. 70. Traffic needing to access I-40 West from U.S. 321 North will use U.S. 70 and U.S. 321 South to continue on I-40 West.
Motorists are reminded to slow down when approaching the work zone and allow extra time for detours.
