New COVID cases have fallen below 1,000 a day for the first time since mid-July. Yesterday, the NC Department of Health & Human Services reported 528 new cases, a small fraction of the number of new cases reported during much of the second half of January. The last time the new case volume was under 1,000 was July 20 when NCDHHS logged 871 new cases.
