Four Iredell County Highway Patrol officers were taking a break at the 7-Eleven on Turnersburg Highway just before 10 on Monday night. That’s when a passerby alerted them that their patrol cars were on fire, according to a news release from the North Carolina Department of Public Safety. One of the troopers recognized the suspect, Daniel Francis Zelo, 49, of Statesville, and placed him in custody, according to the release. None of the troopers were injured.
