Even the North Carolina Democratic Party says there’s a political advantage from Justice Sam Ervin’s potential self-dealing. Though nobody asked them to do so, the N.C. Supreme Court has delayed the primary election for sitting justice Sam Ervin in a case over legislative and Congressional districts, even though the statewide Supreme Court race is not subject to redistricting. Justice Ervin is the only justice running for reelection, and he won’t say whether he participated in the decision to delay the primary for his own seat.
