Duke Energy Carolinas LLC and Duke Energy Progress LLC are seeking 700 MW of new solar capacity in North Carolina, according to a petition for a 2022 solar procurement program filed with state regulators. That procurement program would add to the approximately 600 MW already out for bids in the last round of Duke’s existing Competitive Procurement of Renewable Energy program, the utility said in an announcement April 1st. If the North Carolina Utilities Commission approves the Duke Energy Corp. subsidiaries’ latest procurement proposal, filed March 14th, the two utilities would seek bids this year for 1,300 MW of solar projects.
