In Cornelius last month, the Smithville Community Coalition requested $6.8 million in grant money for Smithville revitalization from the American Rescue Plan. Slightly less than half of that ($3,000) was unanimously approved by the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners at their last meeting. On Monday, the Cornelius Planning Board unanimously endorsed the plan. It now goes before the town’s Architectural Review Board, Parks and Recreation Commission, the Mayor’s Housing Study Committee and the Town Manager for final approval.
