The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office said at least one person was killed when someone opened fire during a memorial balloon release in honor of Xavier Smith, Thursday night. Smith was killed in a crash earlier this week near Fuquay-Varina. The family told WRAL TV the shooting took place on the front lawn and then several men jumped into a car and drove away. The shooting is under investigation.
