Vietnamese automaker VinFast announced plans yesterday to build an electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Chatham County North Carolina, promising to bring 7,500 jobs and ending the state’s streak of near-misses for landing carmakers. Production on the facility is expected to start in 2024. Average salaries for the plant will be $51,000, according to the state Commerce Department.
