The U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights has opened an investigation into “inferior” facilities being provided to New Hanover High School. The OCR first received a complaint on August 27th of 2021 and sent an information request to New Hanover County Schools on August 26th, 2022. The complaint states that the school lacks a regulation-size gym like other schools have and lists a myriad of other issues. The high school…and its gym…was built in 1954.
