Cornelius Today is reporting that at their last Monday meeting, the Town Board honored retiring police dog, Lex, a Cornelius Police canine officer since 2017. Police Chief David Baucom said that due to health conditions, Lex would have been at high risk, so the department requested retirement for Lex. Commissioners approved the retirement unanimously and transferred ownership and responsibility for Lex to his handler Corporal Derek Queen. The department has located a replacement for Lex, and will be making an announcement within the next several weeks.
