WSOC is reporting that a driver was placed into custody Sunday afternoon after a high-speed chase along Interstate 40 in Catawba County. The chase started along Highway 16 in Newton after deputies said they noticed an insurance violation on the car. The driver refused to stop for deputies. The driver, Derek McClure, reached speeds of nearly 100 mph until state troopers flattened the suspect’s tires near mile marker 124 on I-40, troopers said.
