WSOC TV is reporting that a person was airlifted to the hospital after being hit by a tractor trailer around 6:30 yesterday morning on I-77 in Cornelius, according to the State Highway Patrol. The driver of a Dodge Charger lost control and hit the guardrail between exits 28 and 30. The driver got out of the vehicle and and was struck by a tractor-trailer, pinning the driver in the car. Cornelius, Davidson and Mount Mourne Fire Departments worked together to extricate the driver. The driver of the tractor-trailer left the scene, but was later located in Surry County. The collision is under further investigation. Charges are pending against the driver of the tractor-trailer.
