The N.C. Department of Transportation will close N.C. 109 next week to allow CSX Railroad crews to make upgrades to a railroad crossing. Beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, the highway will be closed in both directions to allow CSX to replace the tracks north of Denton. NCDOT will replace asphalt on the road near the railroad crossing before reopening the route. Work is expected to be complete by Jan. 13. Motorists are advised to use Cid Road and Old N.C. 109 as a detour. Message boards have been deployed notifying motorists of the upcoming road closure. Motorists should use extra caution while adjusting to detours.
