On Monday, April 3, 2023, at 4:30 p.m., Cornelius Police responded to Ramsey Creek Park in reference to a report of a person being shot near the bathrooms. Officers quickly arrived on scene and located one person who had sustained a single gunshot wound to the chest. It was determined this incident stemmed from a domestic dispute and the suspect, Terri Lynn Bignell, shot the male victim with a handgun. At approximately 12:45 a.m., Terri Lynn Bignell was located on Largo Place, in Cornelius. She was arrested and charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury. Bignell was taken to the Mecklenburg County Jail without incident.
