A $110 million grant has been given from the U.S. Department of Transportation to replace the Alligator River Draw Bridge (aka the Lindsay C. Warren Bridge) on U.S. Highway 64 in Dare and Tyrrell Counties. Senator Thom Tillis (Republican from Cornelius, NC) announced the grant earlier this year. It comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that Tillis helped negotiate and pass into law. The new bridge will be approximately 3.2 miles in length, with a vertical clearance of 65 feet to accommodate the navigational channel, and two 12-foot lanes with 8-foot shoulders. The Sunset Beach draw bridge was also replaced back in 2010.
