The Citizen Times is reporting that BeLoved Asheville, a local nonprofit that acts as a support network for those in need, received a $6,000 grant matching what it raised locally from A Community Thrives, a grantmaking and crowd-funding program of the Gannett Foundation. The money will support the operations of the organization’s new food truck, La Cocina de Mama/Mama’s Kitchen, which co-founder Ponkho Bermejo said will help the nonprofit preserve culinary techniques from African American, Latinx, and Appalachian cultures by hosting classes to keep traditions alive.
