WBTV is reporting that according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, troopers were called to a fatal crash Ashe County on New Year’s Eve. The accident happened on U.S. 221 near Paul Goodman Road at 4:20pm. Investigators said 66-year-old Jose Antonio Hernandez Jr., of Fleetwood, ran off the right side of the road, collided with an embankment, struck two roadway signs and overturned. Troopers said Hernandez was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle during the collision.
