It has been a long time coming after years of missed deadlines, but as of this morning, Charlotte’s streetcar is officially open. The first riders were allowed on at 5 a.m. at the stop along Hawthorne Lane. WSOC TV reports fares will be free until January. The project needed to open by August 31st for the city to avoid suffering financial penalties.
