Federal Inmates Being Transferred from Charlotte to Georgia

WBTV is reporting that the federal government will soon be relocating a number of inmates from the Mecklenburg County Detention Center to the Irwin County Detention Center in Georgia. Officials say the current federal population inside MCDCC as of today is 282, but the number of federal detainees is constantly fluctuating. The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office has a contract with the U.S. Marshals Service to house federal detainees at the rate of $160.00 per day.
