Durham County Sheriff Clarence Birkhead has asked the county commissioners to hire private security officers from Nighthawk Security and Consulting in order to free up some of the short-staffed Sheriff’s Office’s deputies guarding the Durham County Courthouse and Detention Center. The move will cost an additional $412,323 from his budget. Motiryo Keambiroiro, a general services director, explained Nighthawk has worked with the county for the past five years.
