Duke Poll Finds Companies Are Raising Wages to Lure Workers

Nearly three-fourths of companies are struggling to fill open positions, leading to a sharp increase in starting wages, according to a global survey of chief financial officers by Duke University’s School of Business. The persistence of the coronavirus pandemic has dogged many companies trying to expand at a time when workers fear catching the virus, have few child care options and increasingly have more options for employment, with job openings recently hitting a 20-year high.
