Asheville City Council Retreat Interrupted by Sunrise Group

A protest rally by the Sunrise Movement brought the Asheville City Council’s annual retreat briefly to a halt. The event took place at Harrah’s Cherokee Center downtown, with about 30 activists holding signs and banners yelling demands over the first moments of the meeting. Protestors called for funding for the Climate Justice Initiative, an end to encampment sweeps and sanctuary housing for the city’s unhoused population.
